mi primer dia en el salvaor

I made it! My plane landed in San Salvador around 9 pm last night ... it was a wonderful 85 degrees farenheit outside. I had forgotten how good this heat feels!! Almost immidiately I found a taxista, Renato,  to drive me to Playa Sunzal ...not a very impressive feat considering there was a mob of taxistas vying for my dolllar ...

I stayed at the same place Brittany and I stayed at 6 months ago ... there's a new guy who runs the place now. He told me that my favorite pupusa shop was already closed but offered to walk me down to the beach to where the fiesta was! At least 60 to 70 people were there ... dancing, drinking, eating ... there were five guys drumming samba ... it was awesome! I almost forget to get dinner.

This morning I woke up to the sound of waves crashing softly on the beach. The surfers here are bummed that the earthquake in Chili didn't cause a tsunami. I'm relieved. I filmed a little ditty on my ipod this morning to show you my amazing view! I'll probably be embarrassed later for posting it but oh well. I haven't been here a full day yet and I've already ditched the makeup and started looking greasy!

The plan from here ... I swear I'm in El Salvador to get a lot done for Traveling Stories ... but today I'm relaxing at the beach and hopefully reconnecting with old friends! I'm gonna finish reading an amazing book called The Power of Reading, which I HIGHLY recommend!!!

Tomorrow I head back to San Salvador via public bus! oh yeah! I have a meeting with La Casa de Mi Padre in the afternoon and will  hopefully connect with my lawyer friend at the coffee shop at the mall where I first met him.

Oh, and my Spanish is improving so quickly ... but I still wish Micah was here to help me out like old times!

p.s. sorry for any mistakes in my writing ... i haven't quite figured out the keyboard here.

the baby goes off to college...

Here's a picture of  our form 1023 -- the application to become an official nonprofit organization! Getting this form ready has been a long, arduous process -- one that wouldn't be possible without you! Placing it in the "stamped" basket at work and walking out of the mail room I felt how a parent must feel when their child leaves for college -- or something like that! Keep your fingers crossed that the IRS gets back to us soon with a letter of approval!!!

Only 36 hours until I board the plane for El Salvador ....

Off to El Salvador ...

Hi Everyone!

My name is Emily. I'm the founder of Traveling Stories -  a nonprofit organization that exists to donate books to schools and orphanages without any. We want to fuel kids' minds with stories. This Friday night I'm leaving for El Salvador to locate 3 to 5 schools and/or orphanages in El Salvador to work with this year. This blog will follow the trip ... and other Traveling Stories news to come ... until our website is up and running!

Love,
emily
